Pakistan cricket team's director, Mickey Arthur said all eyes are on this year's ICC World Cup, scheduled in October-November this year in India.
As quoted by a local cricket website, Arthur said their ultimate goal is to win World Cup in India.
"The goal is to win the World Cup. The second one would be to go to Australia and win a Test series. I was lucky enough to experience that with South Africa, and there's nothing better. Those are two very achievable goals," he was quoted saying.
Pakistan is already qualified for this year's World Cup in India. The green shirts' participation in the mega event will be subject to the government's permission.
After India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, PCB is also figuring out to put forward a strong stance. Pakistan might play their World Cup matches outside India.
Moreover, Arthur also praised young batters Mohammad Haris and Saim Ayub. "Mohammad Haris is a vibrant character, he's been great fun. I watched him bat, and he's unbelievable. Saim Ayub is an incredible talent. He's got it all. He can be that player for us that can dominate overs 10-40 at times," he highlighted.
PCB confirms Mickey Arthur as national team director
Earlier this month, Arthur joined the Pakistan team as director, a post which was introduced specially for him.
In this role, Arthur will be involved in designing, formulating and overseeing strategies behind the Pakistan men’s team.
The 54-year-old will also be a part of the coaching staff for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, away tour to Australia and home series against the West Indies. He will also be present with the side for Pakistan’s matches against India in the ACC Asia Cup.
During his time from 2016 to 2019, Arthur coached Pakistan to No.1 in Tests and T20Is, and also helped the side to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
